What's "Chemical Engineering"

The area of chemical engineering is concerned with processes where materials are forced to undergo changes in composition, energy content or state of aggregation. Any subject related to the chemical and process industries as well as global issues such as energy, resources, and protection of living environment is treated in chemical engineering. However, resent research interests are concentrated around the establishment of new engineering techniques that combine the detailed information of materials properties on molecular level with the conventional chemical engineering technologies.

The educational program of this course is intended to produce individuals who have a strong background in the fundamentals and application of advanced chemical engineering.

The course consists of eighteen laboratories. Research and graduate education activities are conducted by, in addition to the proper faculty members of this course, those beloging to Department of Energy Engineering and Science, Department of Molecular Design and Engineering, EcoTopia Science Institute, and School of Informatics and Sciences.
